Last week ScootPad released it’s Mastery Progress Report…and I LOVE it! Before, we could see in a static way how a student was progressing through a single grade. The beautiful aspect of the new reports is that you can see them advance and develop across multiple grades. The way it is organized, it allows teachers and parents to see how a student is moving towards mastery in the various Core Aligned topics, such as Numbers and Operations in Base 10, or Operations and Algebraic Thinking.

If you are wondering what this might mean in real life, take the situation that happened today at school. Mrs. Elliott (our math interventionist) came in because she was surprised that TJ’s teacher had referred TJ for math remediation with multiplication, and yet TJ was one of my GT  (gifted and talented) kids. This surprised me as well: TJ overall was doing quite well in math. As this was an ad-hoc on the spot need for data, I wanted a quick, easy way to get to the bottom of it. Hello Mastery Progress Report! With the click of a button, I had TJ’s data from both this year and last at my fingertips, and I could see exactly what the hole was in her Number and Operations doughnut that needed filling: multiplication!

With the Master Report Card, I could quickly see the hole in TJ's learning, and understand how it would be causing her further struggles in 5th grade.

Mystery solved…I wish figuring stuff out was always this easy! How have you used the new Mastery Progress Reports?

Cheers!
