Math Has Sharpened, but Reading Lags

A recent article in the New York Times reports that while U.S. students have shown dramatic gains in their math skills, their reading skills have not significantly improved. Progress was measured over the course of two decades and showed great disparity between students’ progress in math and reading. The article cites several hypotheses for the decline in reading skills, including the fact that many students are not practicing reading at home.
